Building a publishing engine from scratch

How I built a content business that reached 750,000 monthly visitors and generated more than $1 million in revenue.

Early in my career, I helped build ecommerce websites that answered customer questions instead of simply listing products. It taught me something that has shaped every marketing role I’ve had since.

Useful information compounds.

After selling my first business, I decided to prove that lesson on my own.

I built a publishing business centered on SEO and affiliate marketing. Rather than creating content for the sake of traffic, every article was designed to help people make better buying decisions. Product comparisons. Buying guides. Reviews. Educational resources. The goal wasn’t to attract visitors—it was to earn trust.

Over time that trust turned into scale.

The business grew to roughly 750,000 annual visitors and generated more than $1 million in top-line revenue by connecting consumers with online retailers through affiliate partnerships.

The experience completely changed how I think about marketing.

Search engines weren’t the strategy. Publishing was.

When you consistently answer real questions better than anyone else, traffic becomes predictable. Revenue becomes measurable. Every article becomes an asset that continues working long after it’s published.

That philosophy has carried into every role since.

At Seafair, it means building event guides, FAQs, schedules, and campaigns that help millions of people confidently plan their visit. For clients, it means creating websites that earn visibility because they’re genuinely useful—not because they’re trying to game an algorithm.

The tools have changed dramatically over the years, especially with AI.

The principle hasn’t.

People reward businesses they trust. Search engines increasingly do the same.

Looking back, I don’t think I built a collection of websites.

I built a publishing engine—one that proved useful content isn’t just good marketing. It’s a scalable business model.
